GOL F GEAR Choose wisely Changes to Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x may make you want to reconsider which model you play S ince the introduction of Titleist's Pro V1 golf ball in 2001 and the Pro V1x two years later, millions of golfers worldwide – from PGA Tour pros to weekend warriors - have become loyalists who wouldn't consider playing any other ball. Among that group, some swear by the characteristics of the Pro V1, while others fall into the Pro V1x faction. With the release of Titleist's 2017 Pro V's featuring significant modifications, golfers may want to test both models to determine whether a switch from one to the other could help their game. "Because the balls have been in the market for so long, a lot of golfers may have a fixed view on the performance of the two," said Michael Mahoney, Vice President of Golf Ball Mar- keting for Acushnet, which owns Titleist. "We would encourage golfers to go out and experience the new Pro V1 and Pro V1x, because the advancements we've made in both are very meaningful. "The golfers that we talked to loved Pro V1x for a lot of rea- sons. Some told us they'd prefer a ball that was softer and had lower flight, but they didn't want to give up the distance they were getting. Our task was to keep the attributes of both balls consistent in terms of flight and feel, but de- liver longer distance." The new Pro V1 is now signifi- cantly longer than its predecessor and every bit as long as the Pro V1x. The Pro V1 continues to offer a more penetrating trajec- tory than the Pro V1x's high launch. While both balls are simi- lar in terms of spin with the driver, the Pro V1x has a little more spin from mid-irons through the pitching wedge, and the Pro V1 now has a softer feel. Mahoney said the best way for golfers to determine which of the 2017 models suits their game is to take them out on the golf course and hit the types of shots they like to hit. While some golfers have a good perspective on their launch conditions al- ready, by hitting different shots side by side and taking note of the various characteristics of the two balls next to one another, ul- timately you'll be able to deter- mine which ball is best for you. "Whether it's Jordan Spieth or the 25 handicapper, we've gath- ered feedback across the spec- trum, and the enthusiasm they have for the performance of the product has really validated the decisions we made and what we put into the new golf balls," Ma- honey said. "We want golfers to go out and see for themselves." pro v1 vs. v1x what you need to know… H ere are the main features of the new Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x: TITLEIST PRO V1 • Longer Distance • More Consistent Flight • Lower Long Game Spin • Penetrating Trajectory • Drop-and-Stop Short Game Control • Very Soft Feel > CliCk here to shop for the pro v1.
