W
ith the arrival of the
new year, now is the
ideal time to make sure
you and your game are ready for
2017. Here are a handful of tips
from Indian Wells Golf Resort
PGA Head Golf Professional Tom
Burley to help get you prepared:
Get back in the swing of things.
Now that the holidays are over,
let's get exercising. Golfers tend to
swing the club better when their
body feels good and rotates prop-
erly. Stretching your core will im-
prove your turn radius through
the shot.
Re-grip your clubs. Having
tacky new grips will help you con-
trol the club during the swing and
build confidence. The better the
club feels in your hands, the more
the mind feels good about swing-
ing the club.
Get a new glove. A new glove
will enhance the soft feel you get
when gripping the club. Holding
onto the club properly throughout
the swing gives you the best
chance at a solid shot. A new glove
mixed with new grips should give
you a renewed freshness between
your hands and the club.
Change the soft spikes on your
shoes. Winter mornings can be
chilly and leave dew on the grass,
which can sometimes create slip-
pery conditions. Having fresh
spikes on the bottom of your golf
shoes will allow you to stay con-
nected with the ground, giving
you the best chance at putting a
quality swing on the ball.
Stay committed. Unlike most of
our New Year's resolutions that
last about a week, you should stay
on top of being prepared for a
good round of golf all year long.
Motivate yourself to get out there
and continue to practice and stay
focused.
