WINES TO CELEBRATE
THE ARRIVAL OF FALL
h
arvest season marks an exhilarating time at Wente vineyards.
not only are grapes ready to be plucked from the vines for future
winemaking endeavors, but several batches of wines are also now
ready for release. this year's fall wine releases include the latest
in the small lot Artists series wine and the notable 2015 Winemakers studio
Grand Prix, to name just a couple. here's a look at what's available this season:
2014 THE NTH DEGREE SYRAH
Livermore Valley, San Francisco Bay
Varietals: 90% syrah, 6% Petite sirah,
4% Grenache.
Details: the nth Degree is an exclusive col-
lection of limited-production wines handcrafted
by fifth Generation Winemaker Karl Wente. the
focus of this small lot program is to create wines
that reflect the distinctive terroir of the Wente
family estate vineyards. each wine must show
style and finesse of stellar degree to be included
in the nth Degree program. only the best of the
best, regardless of vintage or variety, achieve
this distinction.
Tasting Notes: this syrah has rich aromas
and flavors of black cherry, blueberry, chocolate,
coffee and vanilla bean, with hints of ripe Bing
cherry, rose pedals and crushed violets. firm yet
soft tannins complement the ripe fruit character
and toasted oak, yielding a beautifully layered,
full-bodied wine with a long, lingering finish.
2014 SMALL LOT ARTIST SERIES DUETTO
Livermore Valley, San Francisco Bay
Varietals: 60% cabernet sauvignon,
40% cabernet franc.
Details: the Artist series is a wine club exclu-
sive offering that consists of red blends hand-
harvested from carefully selected blocks of
Wente vineyards' estate grown and sustainably
farmed vineyards. With every vintage, wine-
makers work with local artists to get their ex-
pression of "the art of blending." this year, artist
nick Brown shares his inspiration as a sense of
tranquility he experiences when gazing into the
vast open skies above the vineyards of liver-
more valley throughout the day.
Tasting Notes: expressive aromas of cherries,
berries, strawberry, toasted oak, dark chocolate
and a hint of spice. A burst of blackberries and
dark chocolate on the palate leads to supple and
velvety tannins. this elegant and well-rounded
wine provides a long, smooth finish.
