WINNERS McKINLEY REPEATS AS CLUB CHAMP N early 40 players com- peted in the annual Club Championship held at The Course at Wente Vineyards on Oct. 8-9. And when the final scores were tallied it was Jake McKinley who successfully defended his title as the overall gross champion. McKinley's rounds of 82- 80 (162) were good for a three-shot win over Ryan Anderson (84-81). In the net division, Phil Taylor posted rounds of 69-67 (136) to finish seven strokes in front of Jarett Peppard (71-72). Next up on the Club Tournament Schedule is the Points Tourney, a FedEx Cup-style event set for Saturday, Oct. 29, in which the top 20 point earners from throughout the season will compete. >> CLICK HERE for details on Club Wente Golf Memberships. FOURSOMES Also known as "alternate shot," foursomes is a more diffi- cult team game because every shot you hit directly affects your teammate. like fourball, two-man teams compete against each other. But in foursomes, you and your teammate alternate hitting shots until someone holes out. one player hits the tee shots on the odd-numbered holes; their teammate hits the tee shots on the even-numbered holes. If you hit a bad tee shot, your playing partner has to hit the next shot from wherever it winds up. Add up all the shots on a hole for the team score. Again, whichever two-man team wins the most holes is victorious. CHAPMAN this is another alternate-shot game with two-man teams com- peting against each other. Playing partners are chosen before the game begins. All four players hit tee shots on each hole, but then each player is re- quired to hit the next shot from the spot their teammate's tee shot settled. (for example, Player A hits Player B's second shot; Player B hits Player A's second shot. same for the op- posing team.) After all of the second shots, each team selects the best ball to continue play, al- ternating turns until it is holed. Best team score wins the hole, and the team that wins the most holes is victorious. A lot of golfers prefer this format over foursomes, because there is less pressure on every shot; your teammate can bail you out. WOLF Also known as "captain," Wolf is a four-man, better-ball game with two-man teams that can change on every hole. Before the game starts, the order of who hits first, second, third and last is determined by tossing tees or balls in the air. the first player to hit on no. 1 is the wolf (or captain), and he gets to choose his teammate on the hole after tee shots are hit. But the wolf has to choose his partner immediately after watching him hit a tee shot. If the wolf passes on a player, he can't go back to him. When he chooses his teammate, the other two players become the oppos- ing team on that hole. By yelling "Wolf," the captain also can decide not to pick a teammate and match his score against the other three players' best-ball score. But if the wolf doesn't win in that scenario, he has to pay double the stakes to the other three players. each player is the wolf every four holes. An added twist is count- ing the best score and the best team total on each hole, with a point being awarded for each. l THE COURSE WENTE FAMILY ESTATES GRAPEVINE x FALL 2016 Late afternoon is an ideal time for closing out a match at The Course.
