TOUR REPORT
Who's the real No. 1?
When the 2015-'16 season started, expectations
were feverish over the anticipated battles among
golf's new Big Three: Jordan Spieth, Jason Day
and Rory McIlroy. And while all had their mo-
ments of greatness in 2016, none of them cap-
tured a major. Instead, it was Dustin Johnson,
the U.S. Open champion, that has asserted him-
self as the man to beat.
Following some burnout from too much early
season international travel, Spieth has been too
crooked tee to green and hasn't canned the 25-
footers with the same frequency as he did the
previous year. McIlroy's putter has been hot and
cold for much of the year, save for his stellar per-
formance in the playoffs on his way to winning
the FedEx Cup. Day's status is best illustrated by
his WDs in two playoff events due to a bad back.

ome will argue that the start of the PGA Tour season doesn't really begin until that
magical week in April when the Masters is held. Others might say the season starts at
the beginning of the calendar year with the opening events in Hawaii followed by the
West Coast Swing. But in 2014, the PGA Tour shook things up. The golf season now
officially begins in the fall, shortly after the FedEx Cup Playoffs and the Ryder Cup, where the
American team recently earned bragging rights for the next two years.
The PGA Tour's 2016-'17 wraparound season will commence in mid-October with The
Safeway Open in Northern California and will conclude in late-September 2017 with The
Presidents Cup in New Jersey. Here are four things to keep an eye on in the coming months.
