Gil Hanse-designed Olympic Course built on the edge of a nature preserve outside Rio. The men will compete Aug. 11-14; the women, Aug. 17-20. As usual, the U.S. uniforms are inspired by the American flag and its three patriotic colors. Williamson said there also are ele- ments of gold in some attire – "Geared For Gold" is the USA Golf marketing slogan – and some patterns that are found in Brazilian fashion as well, to honor the host nation. The men are expected to wear white shirts in the first and third rounds, a blue- and-red shirt in the second round and, in the final round, a snazzy red shirt featur- ing a blended U.S. flag with stars and stripes as the backdrop. The pants will be blue, print or solid, with a choice daily of five different colored belts. Williamson pointed out that adidas "is at the forefront in cooling technology," with apparel featuring moisture-wicking fabrics and slacks with flex waistbands and super- lightweight, four-way stretch fabrics that pro- mote mobility and move with the body. The women will wear predominantly blue in the first and fourth rounds, red in the second and third rounds. They will have a choice of several styles, including standard or sleeveless polo shirts or a dress. All caps are adorned with USA on the front. Though Olympians are allowed to wear soft-spiked footwear of their choice, adi- das models are available that feature revo- lutionary "boost" cushioning technology, with full-length foam imbedded in them to make them more comfortable. One model has red trim and "USA" emblazoned in red on the side and another model has two gold stripes. To be sure, the new team of USA Golf, adidas Golf and Worldwide Golf Shops is hoping for some red-white-and-blue history to be written in Rio. APPAREL f y i going for thE gold g olf is returning to the Summer Olympics after a 112-year hiatus. It was part of the 1900 Games in Paris, where there were only 22 competitors, and the 1904 Games in St. Louis, where St. Louis resident Albert Lambert topped a field of 77 to win the gold at Glen Echo Golf Club. By virtue of being ranked in the top 15 in the world rankings, Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, Patrick Reed and Matt Kuchar qualified to represent the U.S. in the 60- player men's field. Lexi Thompson, Stacy Lewis and Gerina Piller, also among the top 15, qualified to represent the U.S. in the 60-player women's field. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the top three fin- ishers in each competition. scroll through thE slidEshow to viEw morE olympic looks tEAm usA click hErE to shop for adidas Golf Olympic apparel.
