INSIDER Q&A t he world of high fashion has its share of big names: Dior, Coco Chanel, Calvin Klein. Golf apparel also has its big name: Ashworth. Since its humble beginnings in 1987, when John Ashworth and Gerald Montiel launched their start-up in Los Angeles, the company, now owned by adidas, has been a major player in the world of golf apparel. Ashworth left the company in 1997, first designing a line of clothing for Quicksilver called Fidra, returning to Ashworth for a spell and, in 2011, launching Linksoul in Oceanside, Calif., a line of golf apparel that blends the soul of the game with the Southern California surf culture. The revolutionary golf apparel designer, who was a pivotal character in the transformation of uncool, polyester golf clothes into stylish and comfortable apparel, remains on the cutting edge of materials and designs, while still retaining a reverence for the history of the game.
