The course's
playability and
look are inte-
grally connected to the land, ac-
cording to the course's designer,
Forrest Richardson.
"While there are trees, they are
short and shaped by the wind," he
said. "We have kept the holes
open. Where they do pinch down,
the land curves and drops with
the flow; nothing is forced. It all
follows the natural lay of the land
– everything follows the natural
swales and grooves that carry
water toward the river."
The course has four sets of tees
and there are a myriad of shot-
making options. The natural to-
pography and multiple tees
means there are many ways to
play each hole, encouraging a va-
riety of different
shot-making op-
tions, particularly
around the
greens, where the
links-style layout
puts a high pre-
mium on shot-
creativity.
"The creative shot-making at
Olivas Links adds as element of
interest seldom found at modern
courses," Atwell said.
The course also offers a stellar
practice facility with grass tees
and two bent grass greens that
mimic the roll and consistency of
the course's actual greens.
In November, 2014, the driving
range was converted into an eco-
friendly design. It is now a low
maintenance practice area with ar-
tificial turf target greens and de-
composed granite on the range
