T
he Santa Clara Valley is usually thought of
as an epicenter of high-tech innovation.
Makes sense, considering the northern part
of the county is home to Silicon Valley. But take a
short drive down Highway 101 to the southern
reaches of the valley, and you will find the area
remains largely pastoral and scenic.
And nowhere can you get a better sense of that,
as well as all the delights of a luxurious resort, than
CordeValle, one of the most acclaimed golf courses
to open in the greater Bay Area in the past 20 years.
The Spanish word CordeValle loosely translates to
"Heart of the Valley," and that heart beats strongly on
the award-winning Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed
golf course – which hosts the 2016 U.S. Women's Open
in July – as well as the accompanying luxury resort.
Set amid 1,700 acres of unspoiled land in San
Martin, just west of the 101 and about 30 miles south
of San Jose, CordeValle occupies rolling foothills in
the Santa Clara Valley's wine region. But while the
course has earned rave reviews since opening in
1999, it's far more than just golf, as it offers luxuri-
ous accommodations, a full-service spa, a tennis
