OB SPORTS GOLF & LEISURE x SUMMER 2016 x obsports.com l HOW TO THE MAIN EVENT n 5 WAYS TO ENSURE YOUR CHARITY GOLF OUTING IS A SMASHING SUCCESS BY john phipps selecting the right course, such as tijeras creek golf club, is key. S o you got put in charge of a charity golf tournament. Great. Now what? Unless you have attended several tournaments in the past, or the previous tournament organizer left you copious notes and a great team, you may be somewhat lost on what to do and how to do it. Fear not! Your next tournament can reach its goals and more simply by putting together a solid game plan and surrounding yourself with good, organized people for support. To that end, we enlisted the help of Mike McChristie, Director of Sales and Group Events at Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Orange County, Calif. Here are five things to consider when planning your charity outing: 1 Choosing the right golf course. The first step is se- lecting a golf course for your event. Remember, the objective is to raise as much money as possible for your charity or organization. With that in mind, a mid- priced facility may be the best place to begin your search. And don't be afraid to ask the golf course for assistance. "A good starting point is to reach out to tournament directors at a variety of facilities and solicit their input," McChristie said. "A good tournament director can help you map out a strategy to achieve your goals, and send home very happy tournament participants that will return to play in your event year after year." fi
