Proper development inevitably involves a
balancing act, and the most successful en-
deavors manage to blend man's hand with
nature's way in seamless fashion. At the St.
Regis Monarch Beach and its Monarch Beach
Golf Links, they got everything right.
On the one hand, KSL took what was al-
ready a Five-Star, Five-Diamond resort and
pumped $40 million in renovations over
2015-'16. On the other hand, the owners
clearly understand that the chief selling
point of Monarch Beach is its Southern Cali-
fornia location in coastal Dana Point, just
