Las Positas Golf Course

R ecent extensive renovations at Las Positas Golf Course have only cemented its reputation as a "public golf course with a coun- try club feel." Designed by Robert Muir Graves, the course has undergone two major renovations since opening in 1966, with the most recent one completed in 2012. Managed by a team of the top three businesses in the industry (CourseCo, DeBenedetti Golf Shop and Beeb's Sports Bar and Grill) the course has all the perks of a well-es- tablished stopping point in the Tri- Valley area and all the benefits of a beautifully modern golf facility. The recent renovations, which to- taled $6 million, included improve- ments to the sand and bunkers, five new holes, a new snack shack, 12 re- designed tee boxes, and new cart paths and landscaping. One of the major highlights of the renovation was the redesign of the course's water and drainage systems. "Las Positas used to have the reputa- tion of being a wet golf course," said Jeff DeBenedetti, Head Golf Profes- sional. "The new irrigation system has completely reversed that, and now we have improved fairways that are more playable." The irrigation system also allows Las Positas to be environmentally friendly, as it facilitates both potable water and reclaimed water use. "The new water system lets us switch back and forth," DeBenedetti said. "Right now we're using potable on the greens and recycled water everywhere else, which means our greens are in great shape, but we're also doing our part to conserve water." The renovation has only served to further enhance the golf course's rep- utation in the community. "The golfing community in the Liv- ermore Valley has given high praise to the investment made by the City of Livermore and continue to appreciate the Las Positas management group for its dedication to customer serv- ice," DeBenedetti said. "And it's our goal to continually find ways to give back to the our community." ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERS LAS POSITAS EARNS AUDUBON CERTIFICATION W ith several initiatives taken to improve water conser- vation, preserve wildlife habitats and reduce chemical use, Las Positas Golf Course recently com- pleted the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Certification. "Achieving Audubon Certification was a priority for both the City of Liv- ermore and CourseCo golf manage- ment," said Golf Course Superinten- dent Mark Condos. To achieve the recognition, efforts were focused on creating natural habitats for wildlife, including shore- lines for waterfowl, dead trees for the raptors, and flowering plants for hummingbirds and butterflies. "We also established thresholds for pests and use these as guidelines for pesticide applications," said Con- dos. "In addition, new irrigation con- trols throughout our facility have improved the capacity to monitor the water usage on the course."
