hen it comes to FootGolf,
Arcadia Par 3 Golf Course
is paving the way for the
growth and popularity of the sport.
Not only has the course embraced the
game, one of its employees recently
made national headlines by playing it.
Jordan Godfrey, a starter and the
unofficial FootGolf promoter and event
planner at Arcadia, took home first place
in the inaugural U.S. FootGolf National
Championship held at Chicago's Sydney
R. Marovitz Golf Course in October. His
final 36-hole score of 3-under 127 topped
his nearest competitor by seven shots.
The La Verne resident also led the West
Coast FootGolf Club to the same title in
the club division.
Godfrey, a soccer player and golfer
from a young age, said combining the
two sports was a natural fit for him.
"It is the perfect combination to me,"
he said. "I love the competitive nature of
it, and I also love how this sport brings
people together in a game they can play
their entire lives."
The 22-year-old national champion
is not only passionate about his own
pursuits in the sport, but also about
spreading the word. Whether
demonstrating for a newbie or bringing
his 84-year-old grandma out for a round
("She loves it!" he said), he's ready for
FootGolf to become a worldwide
phenomenon, and the golf course he
works at is helping lead the way.
Since its introduction to Arcadia in
the fall of 2014, FootGolfers have had
unrestricted access to the night-lit course
and can tee it up until nearly 10 p.m.
"FootGolf is set up on our existing
course, parallel to the path of play for
golf," said Jesse Sanford, General
Manager at Arcadia. "This allows
golfers and FootGolfers the chance to
enjoy the course at the same time."
