OB SPORTS GOLF & LEISURE x FALL 2015 x obsports.com l Q&A RULE YOURSELF. I WILL. YOU ARE THE SUM OF ALL YOUR TRAINING. JORDAN SPIETH MAJOR CHAMPION we seemed – but in reality, we had just met that day! What is the most challenging part of being on the LPGA Tour? The pressure to perform when you need to perform. You put in all that time, with the faith that it will pay off. So it's really hard when it doesn't pay off, and harder to have to push through and keep trying anyway. When did you first work at Golf Channel? Back in 2013, I was asked to work on the Morning Drive show covering the U.S. Women's Open, which I didn't qualify for that year. I remember sitting on the plane ride there thinking, "What am I doing?" I thought it would be hard to com- mentate on an event when I should be playing. But that week was so en- joyable – I was genuinely surprised at how easy it was to step back and be objective about the game. When did your post at Golf Channel become more long-term? It was almost coincidental that Golf Channel reached out to me in 2014 right when I had back surgery – it gave me something to do as I was recovering. I ended up with a full schedule with Golf Channel that year, and it just couldn't have worked out better. It gave me a new outlet and a potential new career, and I was learning new skills rather than just sitting and doing rehab exercises. What was the learning curve like when you first started work- ing at Golf Channel? The interac- tion with co-hosts came very naturally and was a lot of fun. The part that was the most work initially was learning the background of all of the PGA Tour players. I knew LPGA players and courses, but learning the PGA Tour was a big technical challenge. And then just the delivery that is necessary with live TV. I soon learned that I had to show up to work well-prepared and well-researched, and I had to figure out quickly how to gather my thoughts in a concise, efficient way.
