S
aintsbury, the Napa Valley winery
known as a "pinot house," will be
featured at Bellatrix Restaurant's
next wine dinner.
Saintsbury will be
represented by its
Associate Winemaker
Tim Colla at the April
24 event. Colla will
share the history of the
winery and his philos-
ophy and approach to winemaking.
Saintsbury was launched in 1981 by
two UC Davis students who met in a
brewing class and eventually worked
in Napa Valley vineyards. They re-
leased their first vintage in 1982, and
the winery has since been lauded for its
outstanding wines, specifically its cele-
brated pinot noir.
While Bellatrix currently does not
carry Saintsbury on its wine menu,
Restaurant Manager and Certified Som-
melier Ruan Krugel says he's excited to
sample new varietals.
"We wanted to try something differ-
ent," Krugel says. "Saintsbury's reds
are lighter, which is perfect as we head
into warmer weather. It's a great way to
celebrate the coming of summer."
The dinner menu has not yet been
set, however, guests can expect to find a
salad and shellfish on the three-course
menu and "our usual luxury ingredi-
ents," Krugel says.
While Krugel will explore the menu
and how it relates to the wine with din-
ner guests, the winemaker will focus on
the chardonnay and pinot noir served
and why each pairs well with the dif-
ferent courses.
The upcoming wine dinner featuring
saintsbury is 6:30 p.m. April 24 at Bella-
trix restaurant. cost is $75 per person,
plus tax and gratuity. seating is limited
to 65. wine dinners sell out quickly so
early reservations are encouraged.
