For instance, two new fairway bunkers are being added on the left side of the par-4 13th hole and the right side of the long par-5 15th hole. And while most golfers would con- sider the addition of these haz- ards to be punitive, they actually will provide some welcome relief geared toward saving time and strokes. "The new bunker on 13 will stop balls from running through the fair- way into the vineyards and the bunker on 15 will provide a backstop to prevent balls from running into the creek,"said General Manager Roger Billings. "This will help ease penalty strokes and improve speed of play." Work also is planned to re-shape mounding near the left side of the green on the tough par-4 sixth hole. "The current mounds are too steep and create challenges from a mainte- nance perspective, as well as playa- bility of the hole," Billings says. "We may expand the front of the green by making it wider, as well." Other planned improvements in- clude replacing sand in the bunkers, ongoing aerification and overseeding of the fairways where needed, and resurfacing portions of the cart paths. "We want our members and guests to have a quality experience," Billings said. "And we know these improve- ments will help Chardonnay Golf Club continue to be the best course in the valley." Some of the course improvements will ease penalty strokes and speed up play. IRRIGATION WORK ON TAP I rrigation is the lifeblood of any golf course. And making sure the water gets to where it needs to go is a top priority at Chardonnay Golf Club. "Since most of the system is over 20 years old, we continually work to replace irrigation components – sprinkler valves, heads and piping – as needed," said Chardonnay Golf Club General Manager Roger Billings. "And, we continue to expand and add to the current irrigation plan through- out the course where there was previ- ously no irrigation." Irrigation was recently added to the 10th green surround and in the rough on the left side of the seventh fairway. Plans are now in the works to add new irrigation between the cart path and fairway bunker on the right side of the 13th hole and behind the 17th green by the left bunker.
