A TEE
TIME
C
lassic Club is known for its
smooth-rolling greens and
well-manicured fairways
and tees.
But what most people don't
know is the man behind the trim-
ming: German Silva.
As a result of his unwavering
dedication to getting the job done
and getting it done right, Silva was recently
selected Classic Club's Employee of the Year
for 2014.
"German is dependable, friendly, works
with minimal supervision and delivers qual-
ity work with attention to detail," says Direc-
tor of Agronomy Keith Einwag. "He is well-
liked, always has a smile on his face and is
willing to help others. He exhibits pride and
ownership in whatever he is asked to do."
Silva joined the maintenance crew at Clas-
sic Club seven years ago. In that time he has
developed a passion for his role as greens-
keeper and equipment operator. He mows,
trims, and tends the course and landscaping,
and handles duties such as setting up the
golf course, pruning plant material, edging,
fertilizing and seeding.
The award, which has been handed out the
last nine years, was initiated "to give recog-
nition to associates who are outstanding and
go above and beyond," Einwag says. Each
year a winner is selected from a pool of
Employees of the Quarter.
Silva was nominated by direct supervisors
Joe Kenneally and Keith Force. The other
two finalists for the honor were golf shop
merchandise clerk Miriah Garcia and
Bellatrix Restaurant server Gina Balmer.
Silva was recognized at Classic Club's an-
nual holiday party last month with a certifi-
cate and a bonus. He was surprised, excited
and humbled.
"Classic Club makes it easy to do your
best," Silva says. "The staff is supportive and
encouraging, and I really appreciate that."
