Instruction at the Fisher Bryan
Golf Academy at Longbow Golf
Club in Mesa, Ariz.
"At the end of every practice
session, take some time to play
golf on the range," he says. "Lay
out a few clubs like driver, a hy-
brid, an iron and a wedge.
Then pick out specific
targets for each of those
clubs. Even go so far as
to define a fairway for
your driver. Move
through the clubs one at a
time hitting only one ball with
each club. For every shot you hit
make sure that you go through
your whole pre-shot routine just
as you would on the course."
MAKE THE MOST OF
YOUR PRACTICE TIME
Above all else, focus on quality
over quantity. Don't just cycle
through 100 balls in your bucket
and think you've practiced.
"The first step is the quantity
of quality practice time that you
put in," says Michelle Dubé, an
LPGA Master Teaching Profes-
sional at Tijeras Creek Golf Club
in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.
Dubé breaks down an efficient
practice routine into three
specific categories:
1)
The pre-swing, fo-
cusing on grip aware-
ness, aim and setup.
2)
Spending an equal
amount of time on your
short game as your full swing.
3)
Testing your skill level in all
areas, such as lag putting, hitting
to imaginary fairways with your
driver, and overall accuracy from
100, 80, 60 and 40 yards out.
Repetition is key.
"To become very good at some-
thing we must do it over and
over," Dubé says. "Deliberate
practice requires awareness,
measurement and consequence."
