A
lex Hall keeps com-
ing back for more
at Chardonnay Golf
Club. The Director of Tour-
nament/Group Sales is on
his third stint at the course
in as many decades having
also served as a member of
the maintenance crew, driv-
ing range staff, and as an
assistant professional.
Here's what he has to
say about Chardonnay:
what has kept you coming
back? The opportunity to
offer a facility that I have
seen develop and then re-
develop without losing its
feel. You can travel all over
the world and not see the
surroundings you do here.
And, most importantly,
working with and meeting
new people.
what advice do you have
for someone planning a golf
event? Get a core group of
volunteers that you can
bounce ideas off of and help
with all facets of planning.
what's the benefit of hold-
ing a tournament at
chardonnay? We are a "let's
make it happen" staff, al-
lowing event planners the
ease of mind knowing
everything will be handled.
what's one thing about
your job that most people
don't know? It's not your
traditional 9-5 job. Event
days can be 14-hour-plus
days, but the flip side is
non-event days come with
flexibility, hence the ability
to play golf with staff and
members.
what is your motto on the
job? Smile and take things
with a grain of salt. If you
take things personal in a
customer service environ-
ment, you'll go nuts.
what one word would you
use to describe yourself?
Jovial. Having fun and
laughing at yourself and
with others is the way to go.
what might someone be
surprised to know about
you? I've played golf in
Australia, Germany, the
Philippines, and in about 10
states in the union.
what do you like to do
when you aren't working? I
love hanging out with my
family. My wife and I are
blessed with two young
kids that are 9 and 7. And
having lost my dad when I
was 5, I try and spend every
minute possible with them.
what is your best score ever
and where? Eight-under par
at Napa Valley Country
Club. Within the last year,
though, I've shot three
rounds of 65 at Chardonnay.
what's your favorite thing
about the game? There is
no one else to blame for bad
shots. I also have to admit
banter is one of the things I
enjoy most about playing
golf. Being able to talk a bit
of trash and getting into
someone's head, I have to
admit is a blast for me.
what is your fondest mem-
ory on the golf course?
While I have a lot, most re-
cently it is playing in Mon-
terey with my brother and
7-year-old son. To have my
son hit the ball as well as he
did and to see his enjoy-
ment and competitive spirit
was a blast.
if you could only play one
hole for the rest of your life
at chardonnay, which hole
would it be? Number 10. It's
a par 5 that with a good
drive can be reached in two.
