THE GOLF COURSE > C L I C K H E R E F O R A N I N T E R A C T I V E H O L E B Y H O L E T O U R O F C H A R D O N N AY G O L F C L U B BOOK  A tee tiMe W ith six par-3s at Chardon- nay Golf Club, every golfer should know the best strategy for each hole to maxi- mize their chances for success. So we asked Head Golf Profes- sional Bob Becker how to play the short ones, including the par-3 8th hole that Golf Digest named as one of the "Most Fun Holes in America." In addition to the below tips, Becker also offers this simple guide to playing any par three: "If you can try to hit to the middle of the green and two putt you'll be in good shape." hOLe 3: VALLey Of Zin Featuring a narrow green that slopes to the right, the opening par 3 plays 184 yards from the tips. Pay at- tention to pin placement as the slope will come into play. If you hit your shot to the middle of the green it should feed a little to the right. hOLe 5: nOuVeAu This hole measures 159 yards from the back tee and is all about carry, ac- curacy and distance control. A shot 2 or 3 yards short of the green can roll back into a deep ravine. And if you go too far, you'll be faced with a tough downward-sloping chip shot that will be tough to get close to the pin. Your tee shot needs to be accu- rate, but it's a short hole so that helps. hOLe 8: cuVee This is the hole honored by Golf Digest for its fun factor. It's unique 125-yard wide, five-tiered green forces golfers to place their tee shots on same level with the pin. Miss the proper tier and you could be putting for a while. hOLe 12: the ShOOt At 206 yards from the tips, this is the longest par 3 on the course. The tee shot challenges you as you can only see the green and none of the trouble around it due to the sur- rounding trees. There's no bail out so you have to hit a confident and ag- gressive shot. Go for it! hOLe 14: grAPeS Of wrAth Completely surrounded by the vineyard, this 183-yard hole provides a demanding downhill shot to the green. Normally, you're hitting into a prevailing wind coming from the bay, so it requires one or two clubs more. hOLe 16: hAng tiMe It's called Hang Time for a reason: it features a harrowing 100-foot drop to a large green. With the elevation change you can shave anywhere from 40-50 yards off the distance, which is 174 yards from the back tee. LittLe geMS Chardonnay serves up six fun and challenging par-3 holes The par-3 eighth hole at Chardonnay was ranked high by Golf Digest for its fun factor.
