nce owned by William Wrigley, Jr.,
of Wrigley chewing gum fame,
Catalina Island was developed as a
resort destination, and served as a Holly-
wood filming location and the spring train-
ing site of the Chicago Cubs. Today, the
island features numerous water and land
activities, such as scuba diving, snorkeling,
kayaking, fishing, hiking, biking, and more.

he Hoover Dam was one of the
largest man-made structures in the
world at the time of its construction
in the 1930s. Originally known as the Boul-
der Dam (as on the brochure on the left), it
was renamed in 1947 after President Her-
bert Hoover. And, in addition to a tourist at-
traction, it provides irrigation and hyrdo-
electric power to California and Arizona.
