Rosé wines have become very pop- ular in the last few years, and the 2012 Small Lot Barbera Rosé is a defi- nite complement. The red blend's fruity flavor is punctuated with wa- termelon, red cherry and rose petal tones. "The thing people like about rosés is that they are light yet ap- propriate with Thanks- giving and holiday meals," says Lindsay Knight, Tasting Room Director. The wine was released in limited quantity in August and is available in the 1-liter refillable growlers in The Winemakers Studio Tasting Room. Another Winemakers Studio vin- tage, the 2012 Small Lot Noble Roots, was released this month. The wine is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, two noble grapes. "Hence the name," Knight says. "They are two of the most influential red wines." The Merlot mellows out the Caber- net, Knight says, giving the wine its earthy tones. >> Wente Vineyards released its 2012 The Nth Degree Merlot in Sep- tember. The limited production of 650 cases is available exclusively in the Estate and Vineyard Tasting Rooms. It is ready to drink yet is designed for those who like to age their wines. "The wine is very structured; it's bright, beautiful and zesty with great characteristics," says Assistant Tast- ing Room Manager Matt Rice. "This wine could last 10 years, and it would show interesting changes in 3 years." >> Murrieta's Well releases are some of the vineyard's most impres- sive reds in recent years, says Tasting Room Manager Lori Albiani. The 2012 Los Tesoros Cabernet Sauvignon is a full-bodied, fruit-for- ward mix of red grapes. But it's the 3 percent Sirah that gives it a bit of a back structure. The fruity 2012 Los Tesoros Red Meritage delivers a nice, long finish even though it's young. "I think it's going to make Wine En- thusiast Magazine's list of the year's best wines," Albiani says. "It's an im- pressive bottle." And while the Meritage pairs well with steak, the 2012 Petit Verdot is a great steak wine. It's big, fruity and full-bodied, Albiani says. While the wine is made to be consumed now, Albiani says you may want to lay it down for another three to six months. "This season we've gone red – and big red," Albiani says.
