How American Golf is helping grow the game
W
hen it comes to growing the game, you
could say there's a lot afoot at American
Golf these days as many of the courses we
manage across Southern California are
launching initiatives to attract new golfers to the sport.
One is called FootGolf. Basically, it's just like golf, except
the game is played with a soccer ball and the holes are 21
inches wide. It's a fun, more physically exertive round of
"golf," and we hope it helps kick start a life-long passion
for the game for younger players.

some of the courses you can play in the area.
One of the initiatives at Scholl Canyon Golf and Tennis
Club includes glow ball tournaments, where golfers can
swing at night under the stars. And, we have two executive
courses — Casta del Sol and Lomas Santa Fe — that are of-
fering 15-inch golf cups along with the 8-inch standard size.
It's part of a movement called Big Golf that was started by
TaylorMade-adidas Golf to help raise interest in the game.
Of course, there always will be a place for golf tradition-
alists to play a regular round of golf where they can post a
score for handicap purposes.
But we need efforts like these to continue in order to
bring more fun to the game and to expand its popularity.
