experience and a closing 63 at the
WGC-Bridgestone and a T-15 at the
PGA means he's not far off.
As for the Yanks, Keegan Bradley
was an obvious choice, a Top 20
player who oozes Ryder Cup juice
from every pore.
Hunter Mahan makes sense, with
Captain Watson opting for experi-
ence and recent form. Mahan
downed a superior field in
winning The Barclays in
late August, and sports a
solid match play record
in Ryder Cups, Presidents
Cups and in the World
Match Play.
Webb Simpson? A head-scratcher.
He hasn't played particularly well of
late, with MCs at the British Open,
the PGA and The Barclays. Yet, was
there a more definitive compelling
American pick that got overlooked
at the time? Not really. Edge: Europe
WHICH CAPTAIN GETS THE NOD?
Are you kidding me? OK, let's
give European domo Paul McGinley
his due. He is extremely well-liked
by his peers and players, competed
on three Ryder Cup teams, and has
the player talent advantage on paper.
But Watson has the superior golf
mind, talent and temperament. He
was the winning captain in the 1993
match, the last time the U.S. won on
foreign soil. He garners tremendous
respect from his players, not only for
his past record, but also for the
fact that he still makes cuts in
majors against those one-
third his age. Edge: U.S.
WHO WILL WIN THE CUP?
If this were stroke play, Eu-
rope would romp. Yet, weird
things happen in 18 holes of match
play. Henrik Stenson isn't the player
he was in 2013 and Martin Kaymer
hasn't played to an elite level since
his U.S. Open cakewalk in June.
Poulter has battled injuries all year.
Perhaps it's time his magic runs out.
Webb Simpson is going to bring
out the best in big-bashing Bubba
Watson and crafty Captain Tom
Watson is going to motivate his un-
derdog men to the upset win.
