When you grow up idolizing Bernhard
Langer, chances are you'll wind up with a
pretty calm on-course demeanor. Martin
Kaymer, the 29-year-old from Dusseldorf,
needed every ounce of inner tranquility to
stop the hemorrhaging at the Players
Championship in May. Emerging from a
long slump, the 29-year-old former No. 1
in the world had staked a 3-shot lead with
four to play, only to lose all momentum
following a rain delay.

t's late June, and two major championships are in the books, which nor-
mally signifies the halfway point of the PGA Tour season. In 2014, however,
that scenario is different, thanks to the Tour's new wraparound schedule.
Jimmy Walker added wins at the Sony Open in Hawaii in January and at
the AT&T Pebble Beach in February to his October 2013 "season-opening" vic-
tory at the Frys to forge a gargantuan lead in FedEx Cup points by March. Still,
post-Pinehurst, two players monopolize all chatter about "Who's the real No. 1?"
Masters champ Bubba Watson and U.S. Open winner Martin Kaymer are the
two hottest golfers on the planet. Our mid-season player of the year? Kaymer,
in a playoff, the same result witnessed at Whistling Straits at the 2010 PGA
Championship. Clearly though, there is no shortage of compelling storylines…
