T
here is no shortage of great
golf tips that can be found
with a simple Google search.
Here are five from Classic Club PGA
Teaching Professional Jason Smith:
BEST PUTTING TIP
Always be sure to accelerate
through the ball, especially on short
putts from 3 to 4 feet. Decelerating
on shorter putts sends the ball off
line. A good drill to practice is mak-
ing shorter back strokes and longer
follow-through strokes to get the feel
of accelerating through the ball.
BEST DRIVING TIP
Turn the left shoulder (the lead
shoulder) behind the ball. This helps
to use the larger muscles (shoulders
and core) to control the tempo of the
swing rather than using the hands
and forearms, which can make the
swing fast and out of control.
BEST TIP TO ESCAPE THE SAND
Keep your weight toward the for-
ward foot throughout the swing. This
helps create a steeper angle of attack
and prevents shifting the weight back,
which can cause fat and thin shots.
BEST CHIPPING AID
An alignment stick – it's cheap be-
cause you can use a golf club from
your bag and it's easy to take with
you before a round. Alignment sticks
give players important feedback be-
cause it's not always the swing that
needs work – it could be just a simple
adjustment to your alignment.
BEST PRE:ROUND WARM:UP TIP
Always use this time to warm up
the golf muscles and not work on a
new move. Use other range time to
practice ingraining that move.
