F rom the very start, the idea behind the Arnold Palmer-designed Clas- sic Club was to create 18 sig- nature holes, each with its own unique charm. So, choosing the most out- standing features of the golf course is no easy task. But here's a look at some of the best, according to PGA Head Professional Dawson Hess: BEST HOLE: No. 18 A perfect risk-reward par 5 and a great way to finish the round. With a good tee shot you'll have the chance to reach the green in two and have a putt for eagle, but you must make a good swing to carry the water that protects the green – or you'll be star- ing bogey in the face. BEST CHANCE TO MAKE BIRDIE: No. 14 A straight-forward par 5 with little trouble off the tee and short enough to reach in two with a good drive. If you want to lay up, there's ample space to do so and you'll be left with an easy wedge in. BEST HOLE TO GRIP IT AND RIP IT: No. 4 Another reachable par 5 with a couple of solid shots. There is minimal trouble off the tee as even an errant tee shot will leave you with op- tions to lay up and still have a chance at birdie. BEST WATER FEATURE: No. 12 This par-3 features water essentially all the way around the hole. The water feature on the right side cascades down to the lake that spans the front and left side of the green and there's a small pond behind the green. Over- all, a truly scenic hole that re- quires an accurate tee shot. BEST VIEW ON THE COURSE: No. 7 tee box With a stunning view of the clubhouse from the tee, this great hole has water down the left side all the way to the green. It's one of the more difficult holes on the course, but provides a great backdrop with the clubhouse and mountains. FIT FOR A KING There are plenty of reasons to admire the Arnold Palmer-designed Classic Club – here are just a few BEST SCORE EVER PGA TOUR STAR SHOOTS A 62! A fter opening with luke-warm rounds of 69-69-71 on some fairly tame desert courses to kick off the 2006 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, there was nothing to in- dicate what was to come for Jesper Parnevik on day four at Classic Club. The former PGA Tour star played his first five holes in 4-under par and shot 30 on the front nine. His only hiccup occurred on the 10th hole, but he added five birdies to his card and shot 32 on the back nine for a course-record 62. In all, the round in- cluded nine birdies, an eagle and a bogey. Parnevik finished tied for second in the tourna- ment, three shots behind Chad Campbell.
