enowned as Las Vegas' homage
to old-school British Open
links-style golf, Royal Links
Golf Club is a unique course in the
greater Las Vegas area. But while the
layout, inspired by some of the
best holes from 11 different
British Open courses, are im-
mediately recognizable to
fans of golf's hallowed tradi-
tions, the Walters Golf prop-
erty also offers something that is
more than just a little different:
Beautiful and golf-smart women
who players can use as forecaddies.
The Par Mates caddy program,
which also is available at Bali Hai, is
designed "as a fun amenity to golfers,
to kind of take the edge off things,"
said Royal Links General Manager
Chuck Bombard. "They are golf am-
bassadors, all of whom know golf eti-
quette and know how to fix ball
marks, rake bunkers, read greens and
help with distances to the flags. So
they are like traditional forecaddies —
but they're a little more attractive."
There are 30 to 40 women involved
in the program, ranging in age
from 21 to their mid-30s. They
are all familiar with the game
and a few are excellent play-
ers, including former golf
standouts at UNLV and the
University of Nevada, Reno.
"They all have golf knowledge, but
their purpose here isn't really to offer
golf knowledge as much as fun,"
Bombard said.
Cost is $225 for each Par Mate. Ad-
vance notice of 24 hours is required.
"Really serious golfers may take a
pass on them, but if someone is out to
have a good time for themselves or
their guests, it's a great way to en-
hance the experience," Bombard said.
