S
ure, it gets a little toasty in the
Coachella Valley during the sum-
mer, but that doesn't keep the agron-
omy team off the golf course.
In July and August, the course will
be closed for eight days each month
on Mondays and Tuesdays as the
maintenance staff performs "labor-
intensive agronomic practices that
would otherwise be disruptive to
play," says Director of Agronomy
Keith Einwag.
This includes topdressing of fair-
ways and deep verticutting on the
greens. Additionally, the golf course
will close July 8 through July 10 for
summer aerification.
"The work is being done to main-
tain and improve the turf density,
root mass and playability," Einwag
said. "These practices will help reduce
water use with healthier turf. The
reason we are closing the course is
to be more efficient with the entire
club operation and minimize disrup-
tion to our guests."
The course will stay open the re-
mainder of the season with summer
rates in effect – which always include
unlimited bottled water.
