O
ne of Albuquerque's favorite
local hangouts is also one of
its biggest tourist destina-
tions: the golf course at Sandia
Resort & Casino, which includes a
unique Southwestern-inspired hotel
and a 140,000-square-foot casino.
The property features all the mod-
ern comforts you would expect from
a luxury resort, including stellar
mountain and city views. The lobby
is adorned with original art depict-
ing the region's celebrated Pueblo
heritage and there's a 4,500-seat am-
phitheater that will showcase Reba
McEntire, James Taylor

Located about 12 minutes from
downtown Albuquerque, the course
is easily accessible to locals as well
as travellers who are looking to get
in a round of golf while away.

"This is really just an enjoyable,
playable course," said Sandia's Di-
rector of Golf Matt Molloy. "It
opened in 2005, but it's really a de-
parture from so many of the courses
built around that time, which are so
difficult and penal. We're long at
7,755 yards from the tips so there is
some challenge depending on what
tees you play, but our fairways are
very generous – and, if you miss the
fairway, you'll be in the desert but
you can recover."
Along with the playability, what
brings golfers back, Molloy said, is
the level of service and conditions.
"That's from being a part of OB
Sports," he said. "They have a high
standard that filters down to every-
thing, from customer service to our
course conditions."
