Tetherow, an OB Sports-managed property in Bend, Oregon. While he
"loved being a club manager and working with staff and all the elements
of that, I knew the whole time my real love was playing and teaching golf."
That opportunity arose in 2006, when Chuck began working on an idea
for a training aid that he thought could help golfers learn to consistently
strike the ball on the club's sweet
spot. In 2008, that product, the Tour
Striker, was unveiled.
Thanks to two years of exposure
on Golf Channel and endorsements
from scores of golfers, including
Gary McCord, the training club
caught fire. He estimates it has sold
140,000 units to players from
around the world.
At his academy, he and his assis-
tants teach 30 three-day golf
schools a year, designed for all
players – from beginners to scratch
golfers. He also offers half-day and
full-day lessons.
"I think people view me as a
good communicator," he said. "So
much of golf can be so frustrating,
and they're looking for someone to
deliver the information. I'm a de-
manding instructor but also under-
standing and compassionate about
how challenging it is."
HITTING DOWN WON'T
MAKE THE BALL GO UP
I
t's commonly thought that
you need to hit down on the
ball to make it go up. This is
not true. The club does move
downward when it meets the
ball, but the swing is really a
circle and the club travels on
the arc of that circle. The key is
not to hit down on the ball.
