ome to the PGA Tour's
Bob Hope Chrysler
Classic from 2006-
'08, Classic Club was
first conceived as a
course that would host
the world's best golfers.
And while the course
— which accommodates
nearly 5,000 charity event
rounds annually — is suited for
all levels of play, it remains a
top venue for high-level com-
petitive play and attracts some
of the nation's top collegiate
golf teams throughout the year.
The combination of
top-notch management
and an Arnold Palmer-
designed layout that chal-
lenges every facet of a golfer's
game has made it home to four
of the nation's top collegiate
golf tournaments — the Augus-
tana College Spring Fling, the
Troy Bledsoe Skyhawk Desert
Classic, the Wyoming Women's
Desert Intercollegiate and the
Men's Desert Intercollegiate,
hosted the past six Februarys by
the University of Wyoming.
"It's an amazing opportunity
for college golfers to play a
course that was built with the
PGA Tour in mind," said Uni-
versity of Wyoming's Director
of Golf Joe Jensen. "It's an awe-
some course for a tournament.
Everything about it is like a
PGA Tour facility, from the prac-
tice area to the clubhouse. It's a
real experience for the players."
The behind-the-scenes rela-
tionship with the course's staff
also helps.
"There's a consistency with
the staff and they make you feel
like they're a partner with you
that wants to make the event be
the best it can be," Jensen says.
This year's event fielded 23
teams, one of the largest fields
in the country, Jensen said.
"It's become a national event.
We have schools flying in from
the East Coast, because every-
one wants to play on such a
terrific course in such a great
area," he said. "We actually
have a waiting list every year
because so many programs
want to participate."
As home to four collegiate
events, Classic Club caters
to the game's best players
