T he world of golf equipment has seen many changes over the last 35 years, but one enduring con- nection at Roger Dunn Golf Shops in Southern California that has stood the test of time is the unwavering loyalty of Jeanne Slomanson. As a devoted customer and golfer, Jeanne has become a cherished figure within Roger Dunn, a Worldwide Golf Shops brand that has been serving the region for more than 50 years. Here, Jeanne talks about her longstanding relationship with Roger Dunn Golf Shops, her journey in the game, and the lessons she imparts as a coach and teacher at the First Tee – Orange County. u u u How did you get into golf? I started when I was a softball player. Fifty years ago softball was not a year-long sport, and my parents wanted me to stay active, so they en- rolled me in golf lessons at Imperial Golf Course in Brea. u u u What are some of your favorite courses to play? My favorite place is Bandon Dunes. However, my local club Bella Collina San Clemente is a fine course, great people and fun to play. u u u You've been shopping at Roger Dunn for 35 years, what initially drew you to the store? I remember when Roger Dunn was located on McFadden in Santa Ana. I loved to go there on my work breaks. For 35 years I feel like Roger Dunn is my home away from home. I have had friendships with many staff members throughout the years; they hire excellent employees who care for their customers. u u u What sets Roger Dunn apart? First, they have staff members who have knowledge of equipment and fitting. And I love their 90-Day Satisfaction Guaran- tee; it's hard to beat that deal. Trying equipment is a no-brainer when you have 90 days. It's also fun to find hidden gems in their used clubs. I have spent hours searching for a diamond in the rough in those barrels. The store also runs some good sales, and who doesn't like a deal? u u u Can you share any memorable mo- ments from your visits to Roger Dunn? When I worked, my office was close to Roger Dunn (in Santa Ana). I would often take my breaks to go and look at clubs, gear or putters. Every time I walked through the door and still today, I feel like Norm in 'Cheers.' Everyone greets me by name and I have been asked if I've clocked in yet. u u u What sparked your decision to become involved with the First Tee – Orange County? I have been a volunteer for the First Tee – Orange County for 10 year now. I decided to volunteer because I wanted to help youth learn life lessons and the game of golf. u u u What other hobbies or interests do you pursue in your spare time? Well, I do play golf about five to six days a week. When I'm not golfing, I enjoy cook- ing, hanging out with friends, hiking, my dog Cosmo, the Sierras, and occasionally pickleball. Sadly, I will be out of golf for six months with rotator cuff surgery. I'm sure I will spend lots of time at Roger Dunn to pass the time away in recovery.
