challenging golf course designs, and his tracks
at PGA WEST are no exception. Three resort
layouts – the Stadium Course, the Mountain
Course, and the Dunes Course – showcase several key
characteristics that are commonly found in his unique
creations. Here's a look at five:
1. Strategic Water and Sand Hazards. Pete Dye
incorporates the use of water and sand as signature
hazards throughout the layout of all three of his PGA
WEST resort courses. Golfers face island greens and
expansive bunkers, compelling them to think critically
about shot accuracy and club selection.
2. Railway Ties. This is an unmistakable design
element found in Pete Dye designs. On his PGA WEST
courses, golfers will see the use of railway ties to frame
bunkers and water hazards, adding structural support,
visual interest, and challenging obstacles.
3. Risk-Reward Shot Choices. Dye's courses at PGA
WEST encourage golfers to weigh risk versus reward
