6 • First Tee – Coachella Valley Magazine • Spring 2023 Summer fun in the sun S ummer is just around the corner, and for many kids in the Coachella Valley, it's time to start thinking about how to spend those long, hot days. Fortunately, there's the Summer Program at First Tee – Coachella Valley. Last year, more than 500 kids participated in the program, and this year, Program Director Kyle Winn is aiming to top that number. "I can't wait to introduce First Tee to more Coachella Val- ley youth this summer," he said. The summer program in- cludes a 6-week session, with classes meeting once a week, as well as summer camps that run Monday through Friday. "Whether participants sign up for a weekly camp or the summer session, they will ex- perience a fun and engaging environment with our amazing coaching staff," says Winn, a PGA professional. Camp participants can ex- pect all sorts of activities, such as "water balloon" Wednesday, which involves hitting water balloons with a golf club. And that's just one of many fun and unique activities that the pro- gram has in store. ...................................................... > For more information, visit firstteecoachellavalley.org/ programs or call (760) 834-6791. Girl power Golf program inspires the next generation T he LPGA*USGA Girls Golf program is having a positive impact at First Tee – Coachella Valley by providing a welcoming and supportive environment for girls to learn and play the game. The program is designed to help girls develop their golf skills and learn valuable life lessons such as confidence, persever- ance, and leadership that can be applied beyond the sport. "We are empowering the next generation of female golfers and creating opportunities for them to pursue their passions," said Joy Willoughby, Outreach Coordinator for the First Tee — Coachella Val- ley. "I would recommend getting involved in the program because it makes learning the game fun." Girls Golf is offered on Tuesday and Thursday at 5:15 p.m. and is open to all girls who are enrolled in a First Tee – Coachella Valley Life Skills Class. Through the program, girls are able to gain the skills and con- fidence needed to succeed in the sport. It also provides opportuni- ties to participate in fun and cre- ative events that build a sense of community and camaraderie. "A typical Girls Golf event could include hitting marshmal- lows out of a bunker, taking a field trip to a professional golf tournament, or hosting a fun- themed night," Willoughby said. "Creativity is queen when it comes to Girls Golf, and we're not afraid to think outside the box!" ...................................................... > Visit firstteecoachellavalley.org/ programs/additional-classes.
