"PGA West was a great location for the tournament because of
our open grass areas for vendors and the beautiful scenery."
– Jon Saenz, Pickelball Coach at PGA WEST, host of the Coachella Valley Pickleball Grand Prix

EASY DOES IT!
The simplicity and joy of pickleball has helped sport rise in popularity at PGA WEST
®
I
n addition to golf and tennis, pickleball
is the latest sport taking PGA WEST by
storm. In just two years, the Sports
Club at PGA WEST has gone from having
a small group of 15 players with makeshift
courts to boasting 16 permanent courts
and more than 150 active players.
According to PGA WEST Pickleball
Coach Jon Saenz, the game's simplicity
is what makes it so appealing and fun for
Members of the Club.
"A beginner with no racket sports back-
ground can pick up a paddle and hit a few
good shots – and they can see quick
improvements in their game," he says.
"Pickleball is one of the only sports in the
world where an 8-year-old and an 80-
year-old can play together and have fun."
PGA WEST offers several opportunities
for pickleball players, including weekly
clinics and private lessons for all skills. The
Club is also running a Major League
Pickleball-themed league for Members.
But PGA WEST isn't just a great spot for
enthusiasts to play the game – it's also
an ideal location for tournaments. The
Coachella Valley Pickleball Grand Prix,
held recently at the Club's newly
resurfaced courts, was a big success.
Many PGA WEST Members participated
in the tournament, with around 30
registering to play and even more coming
out to watch.
"It was fun to see because the Members
who were playing had their own fans
cheering them on," Saenz said.
