Rookie makes a name for himself. While Rahm took home the trophy, Thompson also made a name for himself by finishing runner-up in just his 20th PGA Tour event. It was the best finish of his budding professional career, which has seen him post three top-25 finishes through The AMEX. Thompson held the first- round lead after shooting a 62 at La Quinta Country Club that included consecutive eagles. He led after round two and was tied with Rahm heading into the final round. "I had a great week," Thompson said afterward. "Competing against the best in the world is my dream, and I did that today and proved that I can hang with 'em. It was a lot of fun." Burns' putter on fire. For Sam Burns, the cup must have looked like a basketball hoop during his first round at the Pete Dye Stadium Course. The four-time PGA Tour winner one-putted 12 times, including all nine holes on the front side. His opening-round 64 left him tied for second, and he finished the week tied for 11th. "I like the golf course a lot," Burns said. "If you drive it well, you can get some wedges in your hands and be able to attack. And then the greens are really nice." Icons rock the range. When the sun set at the conclusion of golf on Friday and Saturday, PGA WEST was still the place to be, as the driving range between the Pete Dye Stadium and Nicklaus Tournament courses was filled with thousands of spectators taking in the tournament's annual concert series. On Friday, Southern California native Gwen Stefani rocked the range, and Saturday night featured a rollicking set from three-time Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Darius Rucker. Since their debut in 2016, the concerts have become a huge highlight of tournament week. ............................................................. > CLICK HERE to play where the pros play.
