P
GA WEST will once again find itself
at the center of the professional golf
universe January 16-22 when The
American Express brings the world's top
golfers – as well as some amazing musical
entertainment – to the Coachella Valley
for the PGA Tour's annual visit.
Dating back to 1960 when it was founded
as the Palm Springs Desert Classic, The
American Express is unique in that it is one
of the Tour's only remaining true pro-am
events, and it continues to modernize the
fan experience by offering world-class
concerts after play on Friday and Saturday.
This year, iconic Southern California native
Gwen Stefani will take to the driving range
stage to perform on Friday, January 20,
and three-time Grammy Award winning
singer/ songwriter Darius Rucker will
delight fans on Saturday, January 21.
"The Concert Series helps make this
tournament one of the most highly
anticipated stops on the Tour," said Pat
McCabe, Executive Director of The
American Express. "We're looking forward
to welcoming Gwen and Darius and
continuing to grow the more than $63
million in total charitable funds that have
been raised through this tournament to
support local Coachella Valley-based
charity organizations."
Tournament action tees off on Thursday,
January 19, when amateurs will play along-
side their professional partners for the first
three rounds at the Nicklaus Tournament
Course and Pete Dye Stadium Course, as
well as La Quinta Country Club. The
Stadium Course will take center stage for
the pros-only final round.
This year's field will be announced soon,
and recent champions have included
current World No. 5 Jon Rahm, two-time
Presidents Cup member Si Woo Kim and
former major champion Jason Dufner.
