Golf course conditions
shine at Classic Club
after summer aerification
C
lassic Club officially re-opened for play
on September 1 following aerification of
the golf course, and the results of all the
hard work are in.
"The course is in great shape and everything is
looking really good," said Director of Agronomy
Tony Spannaus.
Aerification is such an important maintenance
practice that Classic Club has been doing it twice
during the summer. The process helps remove
part of the thatch layer in the soil profile, releases
trapped toxic gases, and allows for better water
infiltration.
"It is vitally important to the overall health of
the turf and soil and affects playing conditions
year-round," Spannaus said.
Golfers who want to experience those pristine
conditions now, though, need to get swinging fast
as the course is set to close again for overseeding
on Monday, October 10.
The course will re-open for the season on
Friday, November 11.
NEW ARENA IS
TAKING SHAPE
C
onstruction on the Acrisure
Arena next door to Classic
Club is moving along and taking
shape, Spannaus said. The venue
will serve as the home of the
Coachella Valley Firebirds hockey
team, and will offer concerts and
other events.
"They have nearly completed
the outside of the stadium and
are well under way with the
parking lot as well as the interior
of the structure," Spannaus said.
The arena is expected to open
in late 2022.
