THE COURSE W hen you play a golf hole designed by Pete Dye, you know you're in for a challenging ride. The 15th hole at Rancho Del Sol Golf Club is no exception. A beautiful par 5 that stretches 504 yards from the back tee, the 15th hole curves between hillsides and features a double dogleg and a risk-re- ward second shot for those brave enough to shoot for the green. "The twisting fairway creates a tough hole that starts with a dogleg to the left and comes back to a dogleg right to an uphill green," said Operations Manager Clint McCrory. "This makes accu- racy and planning your shots ahead of time an important necessity." As far as hazards coming in to play, golfers need to be aware of several spots on the hole that can derail their score. On your tee shot, if you miss left of the fairway your ball will end up in the moun- tain and you'll have to play it as a lateral hazard. You'll also want to avoid a troublesome bunker on the left side of the green and out of bounds to the right. To master this Pete Dye masterpiece, McCrory rec- ommends a right-to-left tee shot. That will leave your ball on the left side of the fairway and give you the best angle to the green on your second shot. If you want to be aggres- sive and go for the green in two, a left-to-right shot shape will work best, but know that the fairway gets more narrow toward the green. If you miss the fairway from the tee, ideally you'll want to layup to the 100-yard marker so you can use the backstop behind the green to get the ball close if there is a back pin placement. "If you're able to hit the fairway, this hole can reward you with a birdie," McCrory said. "But if you miss the fair- way, it is best to take your medicine and play for par." > C L I C K H E R E TO B O O K T E E T I M E S AT R A N C H O D E L S O L DOUBLE DUTY Golfers need to navigate two doglegs to master No. 15 at Rancho Del Sol "If you're able to hit the fairway, this hole can reward you with a birdie." – Clint McCrory, Operations Manager ...................................................................................................
