Summer 2022
I
t's camp time again at the First
Tee – Coachella Valley. Summer
camps are just wrapping up, but
Late-Summer Saturday Camps are
now being offered August 27, and
September 3, 10, 17 and 24.
The summer camps, which con-
clude on August 6, have featured
themes such as Star Wars, Hawaiian
and Zoo weeks. Late-Summer camps
will mirror the same format and will
include both PLAYer level camps and
9-Hole playing camps.
"Our Summer Camps are a blend
of participants learning the core
values, golf skills, and simply having
fun learning the game of golf," said
Program Director Kyle Winn.
For kids ages 7-14, camps run from
8:30-11:30 a.m. Coaches spend 15 mi-
nutes talking with participants about
the core values for the day. Then the
juniors head out for two golf activities
that reinforce the Nine Core Values,
come in for a short break, do a craft,
then head back out for more golf.
During the summer, the main craft
of the week featured kids designing
their own golf hole or golf course.
"We picked the top five and the
kids presented them in front of the
class," Winn said.
One of the most popular golf games
at camp is Billiards Putting. Coaches
set up the putting green like a pool
table with custom golf balls that re-
semble "stripes" and "solids." The
game reinforces distance control for
the putting skill as well as the core
value of sportsmanship.
To Winn, the benefit kids get from
attending camp is simple.
"My goal for each kid is to get three
things from our camps: better life
skills, better golf skills and becoming
golf buddies with somebody new."
