Summer 2022
J
unior golfers of all ages have
benefitted from competitive oppor-
tunities provided by a unique part-
nership between First Tee – Coachella
Valley and the U.S. Kids Golf Tour. The
groups collaborated to put on six tourna-
ments in April and May, held across the
Valley at Westin Mission Hills, Shadow
Mountain, Palm Desert Resort, Desert Ho-
rizons, Desert Falls and Tahquitz Creek.
"Local kids need access to competitive
tournaments to get them ready for high
school golf," said Mike Wales, a U.S. Kids
Volunteer and First Tee – Coachella Val-
ley Board Member. "First Tee uses golf as
a tool to build game changers and teach
life skills. Playing competitive golf for
some kids will open college opportuni-
ties; for other kids, it will just be some-
thing fun to do that they can do later in
life. And one of the most important
things is that the Nine Core Values taught
by First Tee all get strengthened by the
experience of playing in a tournament."
More events will be held during a fall
season that begins in August, and par-
ents can register their children to com-
pete by selecting the Coachella Valley
tour on the U.S. Kids Golf website.
"We are very thankful for all of the
volunteers who come out to help run the
tournaments and give the kids a great
experience, as well as the local golf
courses and their members who say,
'Yes, we want to support the game of
golf by sharing our facility with these
young kids,' " Wales said.
