First Tee – Coachella Valley partners with PGA WEST to bring in donations
F
irst Tee – Coachella Valley and
PGA WEST have launched a part-
nership that will put more clubs in
kids' hands and help raise funds.
Since spring, the PGA WEST Greg
Norman Course has served as a First
Tee donation site, and members,
guests and residents have been en-
couraged to contribute their gently
used golf clubs, bags, or apparel.
Some of the clubs will be matched
with kids who can use them, and the
rest will be sold with the proceeds
going toward buying new equipment,
and providing funding for the organ-
ization's lead instructors.
"Our goal is to keep growing pro-
gram locations and reaching areas
where we have not been able to get
to," said Teal Guion, Executive Direc-
tor of First Tee – Coachella Valley.

First Tee – Coachella Valley seeks
Volunteers for a variety of roles
W
hat's one of the greatest joys of being a
Volunteer at First Tee – Coachella Valley?
"Making a positive impact in a junior's life,"
says Kyle Winn, the Program Coordinator in charge
of overseeing and growing the organization's
Volunteer program. "One of my favorite
things is when I am at the grocery store
and I hear 'Hey, Coach Kyle!' being
shouted across the produce section."
For those interested in donating
their time in a variety of ways, First
Tee – Coachella Valley is in need of
Volunteers as numbers have depleted
over the last year due to the pandemic.
Volunteers are extremely important to the success
of the First Tee, and broadening the organization's out-
reach across the region cannot happen without grow-
ing the team, Winn said. Many of the First Tee's
Volunteers serve as assistant golf coaches in the Golf
Development Program, which include 90-minute after-
school classes that typically run from 1:30-5:30 p.m.
In addition, the First Tee is always looking for
Volunteers with experience in fund-raising and
administration – even if they don't play golf.
"We love to find ways to use everyone's gifts and tal-
ents to help create a more robust program," Winn said.
"At the end of the day, the First Tee uses golf to teach
life skills that go beyond the game."
If interested in contributing for the fall session,
which starts on October 11, Volunteers need to start the
on-boarding process soon as it involves a background
check and online and in-person training sessions.
