INSIDE CLASSIC CLUB MAJOR DEVELOPMENT New nearby arena set to break ground this spring B efore we know it, Coachella Valley residents and visitors will be able to play an incredible round of golf at Classic Club, enjoy a first-class dinner at Bellatrix Restaurant, and then take in nighttime entertainment ranging from professional hockey to top musical acts – all in one entertainment "complex" right next door to the golf course just off the Cook Street exit north of Interstate 10 in Palm Desert. After years of expected development on the land surrounding Classic Club, construction on a 300,000-square-foot arena is planned to break ground in May on property adjacent to the golf course owned by the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation, which also owns Classic Club. Home to a new American Hockey League team that will be the top minor-league affiliate of the NHL's Seattle Kraken, the 10,000- to 11,000-seat venue is being developed by the Oak View Group and could attract everything from entertainment to conventions. The new arena will be a welcome addition to the Valley and has the potential to provide a big boost to our 15-year-old Arnold Palmer- designed course and its restaurant with hockey, concerts and other events happening throughout the year for families to enjoy. I think the arena development is going to be hugely impactful for Classic Club. And I think Classic Club will be impactful for the arena, having such a great golf course, restaurant and special event facility right next door.
