aerification equipment, which has been
making a big difference in improving
conditions and water usage.
In the coming months, projects include
restoring the additional greens and adding
a world class short-game facility to serve
three of the Member courses – the Palmer
Private Course, the Nicklaus Private
Course and the Weiskopf Private Course.
"The only way legendary golf courses
such as ours stay relevant is through
continued investment," said Executive
Director Ben Dobbs. "The recent
restoration of the Nicklaus Tournament
greens was the first step of a multi-million
dollar long-term strategy to provide an
exceptional golf experience for our
Members and guests."
Renovations at the Nicklaus Tournament
Course expanded the greens to their
original sizes as designed when the iconic
course opened in 1986. By combatting
green shrinkage that naturally occurs over
time, the agronomy staff is now able to
offer more pin placements, adding to the
course's challenge.
"Guests, Members, and PGA Tour players
have enjoyed finding the original flag
positions that have been re-gained after
renovating greens to their original shapes
and sizes," said Director of Agronomy
Chris May. "The Nicklaus Tournament
Course recaptured nearly 40,000 square
feet of putting surface. Golfers love the
new green speeds, too. New greens can
be very firm and they will continue to
soften over the next two seasons."
