The 25-year-old South Korean carded a bogey-free 8-under-par
64 in the final round on the Pete Dye Stadium Course to win by
a shot. His 23-under-par 265 edged Long Beach native Patrick
Cantlay, who fired a red-hot tournament-low 61 on Sunday. It
turned out to be quite the redemption story for Kim, who one
year prior shot a 15-over-par 87 in the first round of the event
and had to withdraw because of back problems.
The American Express drew some of the biggest names in the
game, including former Masters champion Patrick Reed, who
won the following week in San Diego, and a four-time major
championship winner making his debut in the desert event,
Brooks Koepka, who won two weeks later in Scottsdale. Other
marquee names included Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff.
Another star in the field was two-time champion and
Tournament Host Phil Mickelson. And while he may have
missed the cut with rounds of 74-72, he did accomplish
something in the second round that he had never done in 2,200
previous rounds on Tour: He made 18 consecutive pars.
Prior to the tournament, Mickelson served as emcee for The
American Express Charity Challenge at PGA WEST, featuring
Tour standouts Tony Finau and Paul Casey, American soccer
legend Landon Donovan and musician Jake Owen. The event
raised $1 million for Coachella Valley charities.

draws some of the top college
teams in the country for The Prestige
P
GA WEST has not only hosted some of the brightest stars
on the PGA Tour, but it is also home to one of the top
men's collegiate golf tournaments in the country.
The Prestige presented by Charles Schwab returned to the Greg
Norman Course for its 21st year February 15-17, shining a light on
some of the best young players in the game.
The annual men's golf tournament, which has steadily bolstered
its reputation over the years, featured 24 teams, including nine
from California. This year's event ended with co-champions
Arizona and North Carolina both finishing the three-day
tournament at 4-under par. Pepperdine finished a shot back in
third place at 3-under par.
"The vision from the start was to make it one of the top events in
the country, and they have achieved that by inviting the top
teams to come here and compete in our perfect desert weather
and at a world-class golf course here at PGA WEST," said Brian
Hughes, the Clubhouse Manager and Head PGA Golf
Professional at the Greg Norman Course "Having the best
collegiate players here is awesome for our facility, and we are
honored to be a part of this event."
