INSIDER Q&A
uuu
What are some of the interview high-
lights that stand out to you? The year
2010 was when things really changed for
us. Someone got the idea to reach out to
Jack Nicklaus, to see if he'd be interested in
talking about his Masters memories. When
he agreed, it broke the ice and from that
point it was game on. Three episodes after
Jack, we interviewed Annika Sorenstam,
then Arnold Palmer for Father's Day, and
Tom Watson for The Open Championship.
Down the road we interviewed Gary
Player (after he said he just finished doing
1,000 sit-ups), the "Commish" Deane Bea-
man, and the all-time winningest coach in
college football, Bobby Bowden.
uuu
You've also interviewed many equip-
ment makers, what is one of the most
interesting things you've learned from
them? That without question there are
gains to be made in technology each year
in all phases of the game – clubs, balls,
GPS/rangefinders. Every year! So if your
equipment is 4 years old or older, there is
no question that you will see and feel im-
mediate benefits from an upgrade. And
with the Worldwide Golf Shops' 90-Day
Satisfaction Guarantee, it's a no-brainer. As
far as industry people we've interviewed,
Marty Jertson (PING), Steve Pelisek and
Scottie Cameron (Titleist), Chip Brewer
(Callaway) and David Abeles (Taylor-
Made) are regulars. And nobody has more
energy and enthusiasm than Bob Vokey.

Who is your all-time favorite inter-
view and why? Man, it's impossible to
pick just one. Our 100th podcast, having
both Alice Cooper and Edwin Watts on at
the same time was very cool because it was
a rock-'n'-roll legend who loves golf and a
golf retail legend who has his own rock
band (The Mulligans). But, if I could have
the Mount Rushmore of interviews of golf-
ing guests, it would have to be Lee
Trevino, Johnny Miller, Ken Venturi and
Mr. Palmer. Billy Casper would be the first
alternate – there was not a kinder man who
ever walked this planet than Billy.

Who haven't you interviewed that
you would like to and why? Outside of
the obvious (Tiger, Phil and Rory), I would
love the chance of interviewing PGA Tour
Commissioner Jay Monahan and LPGA
Commissioner Michael Whan as they've
both done so much for their tours. Also,
Fred Couples (for some Jim Nantz stories),
Butch Harmon and Bob Ford (a pro's pro).

What's the biggest honor you've had
producing the podcasts? One of the most
unexpected moments that I've had came
after a podcast was completed. Jim Nantz
complimented me for knowing so much
about him. I happened to still be recording
and saved that 15-second clip. He didn't
have to tell me that, but he did and it
meant the world to me.

Any final thoughts? I can't let this op-
portunity pass without thanking the folks
at Worldwide Golf Shops for allowing me
to bring this form of entertainment to our
customers. It's totally unique to any golf
retailer and something that really sets the
company apart from its competitors. A
huge tip of the cap from me to President Al
Morris and Vice President of Marketing
Rick Levy for their support of the podcast.
And this is the way we finish each episode,
"so until next time, so long, everyone!"
In addition to the some of the biggest names
in golf, Tom Brassell has interviewed sports
legends such as NFL great Emmitt Smith.
