GEAR SoCal GOLF INSIDER G olfers may be surprised to learn that a significant amount of clubs sold at the Roger Dunn Golf Shops Santa Ana Superstore in Southern California are pre-owned. But Dan Kupfer, a club fitter at the world's largest golf store, said that buying used and demo clubs – at his location and others – has long been a popular alterna- tive to purchasing new gear. "The price really can't be beat – you're basically buying something that's a current product at a discount," Kupfer said. Demo clubs are typically those that are returned to stores for whatever reason as part of the company's nation- wide 90-day satisfaction guar- antee program, and all other clubs that come into the stores as trade-ins are considered used. Average savings on a driver that retails for $400 might be $50 off for a demo club and $100 off a used one. The selection available de- pends on the store, but the quality standards are high. Stores accept as trade-ins only name-brand clubs that are recent releases in good or excellent condition. One thing that golfers may not know is that they can be custom fit for used clubs just as they would for new ones. They can choose from a wide selection to find the sticks just right for them, and the repair centers at many stores can make ad- justments to loft and lie. "Buying used and demo clubs makes sense for a lot of players – both beginners and low-handicappers," Kupfer said. "We have clubs avail- able for any type of golfer or budget. For example, we have PING Eye 2 irons that are a little older and people can come in and get a great set for under $200. "Anybody who is looking for a deal can find something here – it's definitely a great option to have." TRADE-IN CENTER W orldwide Golf Shops offers golfers looking to upgrade their equipment a simple way to unload their old sticks with its golf club trade-in center. It's easy to se- lect your clubs online, deter- mine their condition, estimate their trade-in value and ship them for free, and once you complete the process you'll receive an eGift card to be used at any of the company's retail locations or online. > LEARN MORE HERE.
