MEMBER FOR A DAY G olfers in Southern Califor- nia who are looking to play some of the top pri- vate courses in the region without having to become members are in luck. American Golf Corpora- tion's new "Play Like a Member Days" allow participants of The Play- ers Club and other golfers the chance to access courses they wouldn't nor- mally be able to play. Outings are held about two to three times a month on Mondays (when most private clubs are closed), and some of this summer's offerings in- clude visits to Los Coyotes Country Club in Buena Park, SeaCliff Country Club in Huntington Beach, and El Camino Country Club in Oceanside. Most of the nine private clubs man- aged by American Golf in Los Ange- les, Orange and San Diego counties are participating. "A number of these events have done really, really well as far as get- ting a lot of people out to play some great courses," said Al Weinhold, a Regional Vice President of Revenue Management at American Golf Cor- poration. "It's a pretty affordable op- tion and a great experience for these golfers." The outings are available to all golfers, but members of The Players Club receive a discount of anywhere between $20-$30 off their green fees. Information on member outings is emailed to members at courses geo- graphically close to the private clubs, with a number to call the country club directly for registration. "We've had a pretty even split of The Players Club members and those who aren't members, and I think some of those non-members have thought about joining to receive the discounted rates and many of the other benefits," Weinhold said. Weinhold also emphasized that most American Golf courses are now hosting new, unique events to help keep their properties bustling during off-peak times. Some have put on 9-hole after-work shotguns, and oth- ers have done member-appreciation events that don't involve a golf round, but get people together for great food, beverages and maybe a putting contest or other games. "They're a great way to get people out to the golf course at times when they might not normally visit, and gives them some fun and different ways to enjoy the course," Weinhold said. "We want to do more for our members of The Players Club." GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY The Players Club members can now tee it up at private clubs SeaCliff Country Club is just one of the participating clubs.
