urt Bjorkman was appreciative and
delighted that his course was one of the
handful in the state to be awarded a pres-
tigious Community Environmental award from
the California Golf Course Owners Association.
But the General Manager of The Ranch at La-
guna Beach admits he wasn't too surprised – and
doesn't think regular guests of the property were
either, since the resort's commitment to sustain-
ability practices is well known.
"Quite simply – it's the right thing to do," he
said. "To us, it's part of the responsibility that
comes with living and working in one of the most
scenic places in the world. Our guests expect us to
be operating our resort in a sustainable manner
already, but being able to say with confidence
that we are indeed sustainable on many different
levels, gives our guests more confidence in their
